“Play is the Way helped me interacted better with other people.” (Student comment)
As a full primary school we provide many opportunities for all children to develop their academic, social and emotional, physical and cultural skills in a supportive, caring environment.
Green Island School is a positive behaviour for learning school. Our overarching value is Manaakitanga, which is developed through our values: Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible.
We develop self regulated learners who always aim to be the best they can be. We do this through our school virtues. These school virtues are explicitly taught through Play is the Way learning experiences.
Green Island School, is the first lighthouse school in New Zealand for ‘Play is the Way’, we host visitors from all over New Zealand to see PITW in action. ‘Play is the Way‘ programme is used to help children explore and personally connect with the following virtues, helping children to build a checklist for self-regulation.
- Treat others as you would like them to treat you
- Pursue your personal best no matter who you work with
- Have reasons for the things you say and do
- It takes great strength to be sensible
